Boys Reaching Up at Church 2.jpg

Our Story

The gap didn’t need to be discovered, It walked through the door every day.

We met working together at a flagship dancewear store in New York City in 2007.

Between us, we had decades of dance experience, coaching backgrounds,

and a genuine love for this world.

What we also had, nearly every single day, was the same conversation.

Them: "Do you have any men’s wear?"

Us: "No... have you tried..."

Them: They had.

They’d already been to the four other major dancewear stores in New York City. Nothing.

This wasn’t a theory or a market analysis. It was just Tuesday.

We experienced this in real time, nearly daily, for two years.

So we built the thing that should have already existed.

boysdancetoo.® launched online Thanksgiving week, 2010.

More than just a dance store.

It started small. Like, really small.

Like, out of a closet in an apartment in Jersey City, small.

A carefully curated selection of other brands’ products and a few simple graphic tees - all in one place, on one site, for the male dancer.

We were intimately involved with this business.

We hand wrote notes to every single person who ordered from us.

Within three years we outgrew the closet and moved into our own space in Queens  -

hand packing orders and hand writing notes.

A year after that came our own product line -

one that actually solved problems nobody else had bothered to solve.

White tights that weren’t see-through on stage.

Rip resistant pants that could keep up with what male dancers actually do.

Pieces that were thoughtfully designed for the actual bodies

that would wear them.

boysdancetoo. set out to show dancers they belong - and to give the parents and supporters who love them some well-deserved relief. And it did.

The Male Dancer Conference.

In 2017, we launched the Male Dancer Conference - a dedicated space for male dancers, their families, coaches, and the people who support them.

3-5 days of education, community, and honest conversation about

what it actually means to be a male dancer in this industry.

For three years in a row, hundreds of attendees came together in New York City.

And what we heard over and over again

was the same thing we’d been hearing since 2010 -

"You're the only ones doing this."

And that it mattered more than we probably knew.

“I wanted to reach out and thank you again for creating this community. It has really re-inspired him. He’d never have access to this kind of classes and training through his studio and with our limited resources.”

“Thank you for taking such great care to consider the needs of families and to plan such valuable programs for the boys. His experience with MDC helped his confidence grow significantly!”

"Thank you again for an amazing experience! The MDC made such
    an impact on our son.

Because of the Male Dancer Conference, my husband and I feel we know a bit more
to better help our kids along
    their dance/performing path.
    We are truly grateful!"

“I love how y’all’s mission keeps growing and growing. I have had 2 sons in dance, and they have benefited so much by the support and encouragement you give all dancers, but especially male dancers.” — Christine

We're sorry we went off the grid...

Life happened. COVID hit.

The industry got complicated.

We kept boysdancetoo.® going in the best ways we could.

But we started to fade.

Overworked and burnt out - our voices got quiet and our energy was at an all time low.

We never intended on ‘ghosting’ you.

We wanted to let you know we’re still here, and we’re sorry we disappeared.

It's 2026 - and WE'RE MAKING PEACE.

We made peace

with the disruption that caused our revolutionary company to halt manufacturing technical dancewear.

We say peace

as a goodbye to our old business model so that we can make space for what’s alive for us right now.  We will do what male dancers have always done - defy the status quo.

We cry peace

to a world that is in a perpetual state of separation. Separation is an imaginary thing. We all speak the same language (that of the body).

We all dance.

All of us.

“CHANGEMENT” in french means “change.”

Dancers use this term referring to starting in one position, taking flight, and landing in a different position.

In 2019 boysdancetoo® was in a great position, ready to scale. And then the pandemic happened and we took an involuntary flight to the unknown and we have been “changementing” ever since.

We are ready to land in a different position.

One with less power, less resources, but no less love for representing unity in movement. All people, all movements.

We, like dancers, need to bend and flex and elevate without force. Too much force will break us, like it would our bodies. So we are going to flex our design muscles, stretch our imagination, and elevate the options for all movers and shakers.

(and when financial support in the millions come our way, we will resume the dancewear revolution not with  force, but with ease)

We have found unique, fashion forward, gender expansive apparel silhouettes that can hold bolder design prints and are going to use them.

The designs will be edgier, more modern.

Transparency:

We are not printing and holding stock in a warehouse.

The products are printed and shipped as they are ordered from both the United States and overseas.

Sometimes the product arrives in 5 days and sometimes in 3 weeks (rare).

They are not your typical cheap shirts with a print on them - the price will reflect it’s modern shape, quality print, and unique designs.

You will not pay for shipping.

We are a team of 2.5 people.
